Nathan J. @NathanDirector 3d I expected a basic thriller, but the bleak atmosphere totally crept under my skin. The Director’s Eye (What Worked): • Bertino’s wide framing uses negative space brilliantly, making the rural isolation feel super claustrophobic. • Mixing the score with classic country records gives the house a deeply unsettling vibe. • Through my Methodist faith lens, the random cruelty is unnerving. It highlights the darkness we face, reinforcing our need for grace when isolated. The Cuts (What Didn't): • The middle part really dragged for me. They spend way too much time slowly wandering around making questionable choices. • Keeping it spoiler-free, character development is super sparse. It’s hard to care about their drama before the suspense starts. • Some jump scares felt unearned, relying on loud noises instead of psychological dread. Favorite Line: “Because you were home.” The Verdict: 5.7/10 ⭐️ A creepy but messy film. Skip it if you hate slow pacing. So when The Strangers starts with this Bryan Bertino has my attention! This is a horror/suspense movie that builds the tension perfectly through out the whole film. The tone of the movie just makes my skin crawl no matter how many times I have seen it. Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman give great performances as they are stalked by the crazy creepy Strangers! Overall this is an awesome horror movie that will sit with you long after the credits roll. I consider this one of the scariest movies I’ve seen up there with the exorcist in the conjuring. The lighting and sound is amazing how a horror movie should look and sound like Liv. Tyler performance was good. I know a few people that worked on this one and their stories while working on this I found very interesting.
