Critics Consensus

Though not the highest caliber of Agatha Christie adaptations, Seven Dials is a short and sweet dive into a mysterious rabbit hole that carries great performances and stylish verve.

Let’s focus on the best parts of “Seven Dials,” which occur when Bundle crosses paths with Superintendent Battle (Martin Freeman). Their back-and-forth gives the series the pluck it lacks elsewhere. Go to Full Review

This tidy journey of less than three hours is lovely period-movie fun. Go to Full Review

While McKenna-Bruce is a watchable lead, her privilege and connections result in easy access to clues and situations that instantly lower the stakes. If everything is at your fingertips and there’s nothing to work for, the payoff isn’t rewarding. Go to Full Review

"The television adaptation of this little-known novel by the mystery author is a risky and successful gamble". [Full review in Spanish]" Go to Full Review

It's ok, it kind of depends on what you're here for. If you're here for a legit hard to piece together mystery or to be surprised by its twists, I wouldn't recommend it on that basis. Go to Full Review

lord B @RT97805964 2h extreme incorrect hisotry woke, black engineer were not funded by british empire and women did not all have short hair back then hollywood cringe trash See more Susannah Z. @Susannahz 1d Ahhhhhh SO MUCH FUN!! I loved it. The artistic cinematography was brilliant and obviously the acting was spot on. I made my husband bing all three. Wasn't predictable (a teeny bit) but certainly not for the most part and I love the twists. Love love love love!!! See more Michael D @MichaelX 6d We're pretty devoted murder mystery fans, with recent favorites including the "Knives Out" movies, as well as "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile", so we came to this three-episode Netflix miniseries with genuine appetite. Its greatest virtue is its brevity: short and sweet, with a briskly paced rhythm that lets the mystery breathe without overstaying its welcome. Visually it's a treat with sumptuous sets, gorgeous costumes, and impeccable period detail. But beneath that pretty package lies something beige and inert. Character development is largely absent, and the ensemble, despite crisp English accents all round, is a curiously flaccid lot, short on charisma and seemingly on autopilot, the inestimable Helena Bonham Carter very much included. This isn’t one of the great dame of mystery’s finest outings, on either side of the camera. See more Avindu G @RT86379654 May 27 The signature vibrance of Netflix would be the first thing one would notice. As Agatha packs the venue with suitors a viewer would have anticipated a parachuting Poirot of sorts. But instead we get a detective in the making whose heartbreaking discovery is not just a plot twist but also a clever depiction of the cost of exposing the whole truth. As we see our hero in tears signalling a peaceful end the show produces a last spark that not only expands possibilities majorly but also tells us that things aren't over yet in this series. The cast was excellent and the performances are equally great. You shouldn't miss this small three parter gem. See more Edouardo R. @EdouardoR May 19 I liked it. McKenna-Bruce was believable in her role. Good mystery. Perfect length at 3 one-hour episodes. See more Isaac S @IsSmithRating May 14 Having never read the novel, I can't speak to the quality of this adaptation but it stands alone as a fun murder mystery with believable acting and visually pleasing cinematography. There are multiple twists to this story - some easier to predict than others. Regardless, I remained engaged until the end. I appreciate that it was done in three episodes instead of forcing a six or eight part series out of it. This kept the story moving. If you're looking for a lighter mystery (similar feel to The Residence) that really brings home the cozy feel of early 20th century England with a compelling female lead, this is for you.
