Mason W @RT57124725 12/22/2024 It’s another brilliant series and just very enjoyable and laughable like the other two. See more Jacquelyn J @Jackie01 10/27/2024 Brilliant series just as good as previous 2 series See more 05/29/2022 This series was recommended to me a lot, but I still couldn't get my hands on it. And finally, after 3 seasons, I got to it. I've always liked Joseph Gilgun. Back in Misfits, I thought he was the strongest actor in the cast. Still, unlike everyone else, he played two (and even three) different roles there. And I consider Golyak, filmed, by the way, based on the biography of Gilgun himself and produced by him, as an ideological continuation of the Dregs. In fact, here characters are shown like the Dregs, only without superpowers and after 10-15 years. That is, the characters of Golyak, if they were ten years younger, could become excellent characters of the Misfits, just like the heroes of the Misfits, if they were made older and their superpowers were removed, they would ideally fit into the setting of Golyak. Even between the characters of Vinnie and Rudy there are parallels: one suffers from bipolar (by the way, like Gilgun himself), and the other is literally divided into two personalities. But in Golyak, of course, there is also a development under the influence of time. For example, in Misfits it would be difficult to imagine that any of the characters went to a psychologist of their own free will, but here the main character attends therapy sessions regularly. They cannot be called productive, of course, but the fact itself is distinctive. By the way, the psychologist is probably my favorite character here. And aside from the comparison to Misfits, which I couldn't resist, the series is good. It is funny, but also dramatic, the characters are colorful and well written, there is an atmosphere, beautiful shots, pop music, but suitable. But the script works best here, especially in the first season. The first season is the best: smartly twisted, intriguing, but not overdone. In the second, a little nonsense already sticks out in places. It was clear that the creators did not know where to move the plot further. In each series, there was another mess leading to nothing, new characters appeared who were no longer so interesting, the story arcs and personal drama of the old characters were forgotten, as well as the through story. The third continued this trend, which already began to sadden me, but in the end he was still able to more or less taxi to the previous level. However, there is a flaw in the series that lasts throughout all the seasons and only grows - this is the unrealistic and implausible impunity of the main characters. It's unbelievable how much they get away with, how often they get lucky at the last moment, and how many problems they just forget over time. In life, each of them would have been in prison for a long time and would not have been released for a long time. It also strains the number of plot branches, hooks and Chekhov's guns, which are constantly hung, but not all of which eventually fire. The plot breaks down under the pressure of started and unfinished arcs, and I don't have the feeling that these problems will be closed in the new seasons. However, I will watch the fourth season and I really hope that the series will not go down, although, unfortunately, it has a lot of potential for this. So far, he is still relatively holding on to a given quality bar, but he runs a very strong risk of sliding into an endless farce and Santa Barbara at any moment. Therefore, my assessment will be conditional and in advance. I can recommend the series to those who, like me, liked Misfits at one time, and lovers of the early Guy Ritchie.
