Many Americans think they have an idea for the "next big thing," an invention that could make them millionaires. Most of those people are wrong. But if just one of the would-be Edisons does have a great idea, Reichart Von Wolfsheild and Garrett Lisi hope to find it. Von Wolfsheild has produced more than 100 consumer products and pioneered dozens of technologies over the past three decades and Lisi is a theoretical physicist. Together, they travel the nation searching through the theoretical haystack of prototypes that is presented to them by amateur inventors, hoping to find the elusive needle in the haystack. Among the inventions they test along the way are a nonlethal weapon that uses modified paintballs to deter wild animal attacks and a potentially life-saving invention that was inspired by the events of Sept. 11. If Von Wolfsheild and Lisi like what they see, an inventor can get the investment he or she needs to help bring the product to the market.
