The documentary is immersive, edited at high speed, and is horribly irresistible. It’s impossible to stop watching, never knowing just what is coming next, just like the show whose history it documents. Go to Full Review

But if the film is damning of the show’s abundant exploitation and dearth of ethics, it can be frustratingly misfocused — more invested in the behind-the-scenes drama than the impact on guests Go to Full Review

The endless examples of the show’s failings are mostly presented as a lurid recap, shorn of analysis. The more pertinent question is: Why does America’s broader political discourse now resemble the daytime series? Go to Full Review

With its outrageous episodes...The Jerry Springer Show helped pave the way for the trivialization of politics that has transformed it into part of what it is today, a sensationalist spectacle. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Birithivy Y @RT04210749 01/26/2025 Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action - 9/10. This score is not indicative of the actual Jerry Springer show. I’m still shocked that a show of this level of abrasiveness and tone was aired on daytime talk show (and its even crazier that a show of this nature saw tv screens during that time cause we never have had anything of this ilk before or after). This documentary does a surprisingly effective job of throwing you into the producers’ minds and methods in order to make the show that they ended up making. It shows you how disturbing their collective lusts were for ratings and success. Its a documentary that shows the insatiable (and highly venomous) lust for success, and how in aiming for the number one spot, they ended up causing a ripple effect of controversies and reprehensible damage to the guests that came on the show. It was an exploitive show that really preyed on people’s weaknesses, their problems, and how the audience in studio and at home just wanted drama (no matter how unethical it was). I was a kid to teen when this show was live, and I vaguely remember it because I would only see it when flipping the channel when I was bored. Its a show that changed reality tv and daytime talk shows forever, but its thankfully never been replicated to the full extent that it was at one point. What this doc does really well is show you the full effect it had on people and society. Sure, it did have a huge zeitgeist hold on American and world culture at one point, but this doc also shows how detrimental it was to societies views on things too. It sadly showed how even with technological and societal advances, people sadly still loved to know about other people’s problems in a manner which was very leery. If this doc is anything, its informative but also a warning that we should never allow a show of this kind become a huge hit in the magnitude that Springer had for some time. If there’s one thing I’m glad about, is that we don’t have something like this on daytime. Like Springer says in the doc, he didn’t view this show as a talk show. It never ended up being one, if anything, it was more of a dark mirror to show how some people liked seeing others misery, pain, and drama. It was very interesting, bizarre, and shocking. If you haven't seen this docuseries yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see. See more Chadd J @RT99579624 01/13/2025 I have never been a fan of Jerry Springer. This documentary was just a retailing of some of the behind the scenes action, it did not have an engaging story or scandal that would capture a viewer. It did however, have some fun drama. The story about the father and daughter was completely unbelievable and disgusting. See more Georgan G @RT98616417 01/13/2025 Nothing in this documentary is a surprise. The fact that the guests are primed towards violence is horrible. Exactly why I could only watch the TV show to see what all the fuss was about. It dives into the chaotic world of trash TV, highlighting the brilliance yet sadistic nature of producers like Richard, who exploited guests for ratings. Jerry’s daughter’s loyalty and love for her father, despite his controversial legacy, was heartwarming. While society labeled it "trash," its universal viewership was genius in its own way. The real villains were the producers manipulating good people. I enjoyed it but wished for more depth. Still, it’s a fascinating look at a cultural phenomenon. See more Sandra S @RT55427032 01/12/2025 Coming from someone who actually worked there during the heydey of it all, you guys have no idea what actually happened behind the scenes. I witnessed stuff that would make... Let's just say " I married a horse" was nothing! Good for you for interviewing Richard Dominick, but he was a POS behind the scenes that "ran" the show. Watching this I literally want to throw up. See more Read all reviews
