SIBIRIAK . @RT79513769 May 9 Season 2, Episode 5 I don't often write positive reviews and give a 10. I'm gonna try to express myself efficiently. I love Kidding. Watching it for the second time. The first time it was only one season. Many shows have a simulation-episode that stands aside the main continuity. Remember Mr. Robot? On one hand such episodes give the audience a reboot so watching it doesn't seem like a hamster wheel. On another hand it actually gives a new perspective and sometimes tells the story even better than a standard episode could do. Now, about the argument "I didn't sign up for this". Funny, but this particular episode teaches kids how to be graceful for changes. Aren't you tired of the same formats and styles that were passed on for decades? Oh, let's tell a story about a guy, how he goes to work and his wife asks for a divorce, and his son died, and he's having a meltdown. Do you really want another Days Of Our Lives? Believe me, most of the viewers evolved which was inevitable because film consumption has changed. And if the percentage of people who want non-linear stories was low then big companies like this would know that and wouldn't invest in such great casting and production in non-linear stories. Now, about the episode. Please, try to watch a story as a whole, as a simulation of a life. Don't look at it as if it's an isolated sketch stretched on weeks. Imagine an episode like this in a real kids-show. I remember from my days as a kid, when a show changes and it's incorporated in the story you fell it so real. I remember when ALF started getting to the final episodes. It always feels real for a kid. If you imagine this episode as a real show you would appreciate how multileveled it is, how life-educating it is. Esthetically, it reminds me of David Lynch's surrealism and at the same time those serious Soviet "Cartoons for adults" as they called them at that time where some deepest life-lessons were imbedded. Ok. Can we tell anything from this episode about how the story continues? The last episode was ended at negotiation table. We didn't even know how the negotiation went. By the way, the result if a little bit unrealistic. I don't understand why they didn't argue which half should each get. Also, not clear why they didn't argue if the names of the puppets are parts of the intellectual property. But that's I guess was left out for a lawyer-show. We can tell very much about the story from this episode. We can tell that he decides to go through with the divorce. We can tell that the negotiation went the way the puppets' intellectual property was transferred. Also we can tell that Jeff is healing, he is committed to this episode, he is not having a meltdown, He is finally expressing his artistic view. Beautifully written performed and so much more that should have been created. Wishful thinking maybe someday this would come back. See more yash b @yashbansal 03/03/2021 I have always considered Jim Carrey to one of the most versatile actors. In "Kidding" he showcases more of his dramatic side, with some moments of humor. This show is often devastating and Carrey is easy to root for as a Mr. Rogers type public figure. His character does make mistakes, but I could easily empathize with him at every hardship he faces. This show is ultimately about the hardships all of the family members face, and I found myself very invested pretty quickly. The whole thing is only two seasons but I think it manages to tell a complete story. There are a few episodes that are hilarious, and I wish the series took more opportunities to make me laugh, but nonetheless, the drama and the messages are very real and effective. As a Jim Carrey fan, I am very glad I decided to check out this quick series with my current access to Showtime. See more Read all reviews
