The contextual intricacy and the fact that the last episodes change the setting completely, also switching the slight comedy for drama make “Witch of Mercury” a mecha anime that is definitely worth watching, for reasons beyond its usual technical prowess. Go to Full Review

A strange mix of school life, business politics and mobile suit combat but with a lead character that’s genuinely charming and easy to route for (with the possible exception of the final scene of the series!) made for a fun ride. Go to Full Review

Mercuslop s @Mercuslop Jan 2 Terrible show with underwhelming mobile suits and a convoluted story. The plot confuses and alienates newcomers, feeling dated and dragged out despite only 25 episodes. Suletta is bland and unrelatable, while the supporting cast is forgettable and irritating. The Houses and Branches lack flair, serving as contrived devices that awkwardly push Suletta into a mess she doesn't grasp—leaving viewers equally frustrated with no payoff.Mobile suit designs are among the weakest in any AU, generic and lacking personality. Antagonists feel forgettable, offering no real challenge or complement to Suletta's Aerial, which has forced and unconvincing stakes.Animation is stiff and uninspired; characters are one-dimensional with exaggerated, cartoony expressions that clash with the tone.Battles are low-stakes and pointless, with no tension and grating, repetitive sound effects.Strongly recommend skipping it—it's a waste of time. See more Jamms Y. @lilith01 Dec 25 Great show and amazing mobile suits and story The plot is solid for new comers and a nice modern anime at 25 episodes Suletta is charming and the party of characters she interacts with are all nice to watch. for the show the Houses and Branches all have a certain Flair to them that helps them fit in the narrative to push Suletta forward to a plot she doesn't understand, and that works because we are finding out the overall story with Suletta and that's the proper way to tell a story of this scale. The mobile suit designs are some of the best AU designs from the various designers coming together to give the antagonists of the show a personality and flair that compliments the individual challenge for Suletta to go through in the Aerial as they are essentially on this journey together for the mobile suit has a stake in the story as well. The animation is smooth and charming, the characters are unique and diverse with an animated flair that doesn't look cartoony in any way as it's fits the theme of the show My last points are the battles and sfx glorious they all have stakes and a means of the reason for them. The tension is high from the first motion to the battles climax and the sound of the weapons is just ear candy High recommend try it out and see if it's your cup of tea See more Werner K @wernerrrrr12 Dec 3 I liked this. See more Erick Jahir H Oct 19 Gundam’s multiple timelines and universes are a major draw for fans, and it’s no surprise that shows like G Witch fail to capture the essence of what makes Gundam one of the biggest franchises of all time. For me, G Witch is one of the weakest Gundam series, and a disappointing modern iteration for two simple reasons: 1: Overreliance on clichés like "cute girls." 2: Forced yuri. In all seriousness, it’s frustrating to see two female leads reduced to predictable tropes with little depth. Suletta’s social anxiety feels exaggerated and unconvincing, making it hard to root for her. Miorine’s abrasive personality comes off as one-dimensional, lacking the nuance needed to make her insecurities relatable. The leads feel like archetypes rather than real, complex characters, which is a letdown in a franchise known for its rich storytelling. The yuri undertones are mishandled, feeling both subtle to the point of irrelevance and awkwardly shoehorned into the plot. Suletta and Miorine’s relationship seems like an afterthought, barely contributing to their individual growth or the story’s progression. It’s disappointing to see female protagonists and romantic dynamics that feel poorly developed and inorganic compared to the more compelling hetero relationships in other Gundam series. There’s little room for meaningful growth, and I’m not optimistic about the second cour improving things. The school setting is a tired and uninspired departure from the classic Gundam formula. The cliques and petty school politics feel like a watered-down version of the franchise’s signature political drama, lacking the depth or stakes of traditional Gundam conflicts. G Witch feels like it’s pandering to a modern audience at the expense of what made Gundam timeless. The series loses that iconic Gundam vibe and comes across as a generic anime with outdated character designs that don’t stand out.As for the Gundams themselves, the show’s lack of action is a major flaw. The few fight scenes we get are underwhelming, with clunky integration of 2D and 3D animation/CGI that feels jarring. The set pieces lack creativity, and the battles feel poorly paced and uninspired. I’m skeptical that the second cour will deliver the epic action Gundam is known for, given Sunrise’s lackluster execution so far. The sound design, while passable, is forgettable and doesn’t elevate the experience in any meaningful way.Overall, Gundam G Witch is a letdown for both Gundam veterans and newcomers. It’s hard to recommend when you need prior knowledge of the franchise to appreciate its shallow character parallels, making it a poor entry point. Those looking for well-written female characters, engaging mechs, or compelling sci-fi will be disappointed by its lack of depth and originality. See more Read all reviews
