Charlie Contour and Holly Hamilton were stars of a detective series in the '90s, but their lives have taken different paths since the show ended. Charlie is a suburban housewife and mother, but Holly longs to return to her glory days as a TV star. That's about to change when a megafan, Nick, witnesses a crime. He refuses to speak of it to anyone but his favorite TV detectives, prompting the former gal pals to reunite to solve a real mystery. The show's plot is a case of art imitating life as "Mystery Girls" reunites "Beverly Hills, 90210" co-stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling as the lead characters.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though the execution is typical, the corny jokes and broad acting make Mystery Girls a fun, sentimental throwback sitcom that benefits from the nostalgic reunion of Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth.

This is overly lit shtick that gets rancid after five minutes. Go to Full Review
Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times 06/25/2014
Unfortunately, creator Shepard Boucher (Men at Work) seems confined by the limitations of his stars, who are clearly not interested in actually exploring the real vagaries of fame. Go to Full Review

The show (co-created by Spelling) is standard-issue cable sitcom, with acting that's too broad (Garth is the exception here) and a laugh track that's loud and awkward. Go to Full Review

There's always some kind of fun that comes with watching stars laugh at themselves, so I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few former fans checked back in for more. Go to Full Review

As a whole, the characters are far from modeling responsible behavior, but that's clearly not a goal of this carefree comedy series that pins its hopes on drawing adult viewers by reuniting Beverly Hills, 90210 stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling. Go to Full Review
Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 06/25/2014
Mystery Girls has some fun with viewer knowledge of rumors of disharmony on the 90210 set (yes, Shannen Doherty gets a shout-out) even if it all plays to cat-fighting women stereotypes. Go to Full Review
