As an executive producer on "The Shield" and the creator of "Sons of Anarchy," Kurt Sutter has spent a good part of his adulthood writing about fictitious anti-heroes, the kind of guys he became fascinated with while relentlessly watching TV as a kid. "We all love the guys in black," he says. Spearheaded by Sutter's insight, "Outlaw Empires" presents stories of real American outlaws -- gangs and families who have ruled the streets with a heavy hand and without sympathy. Each hourlong episode tells the complete history of a notorious crime ring, from the Crips in Los Angeles to biker gangs to the Italian Mafia and the Aryan Brotherhood, replete with commentary from members who lived the outlaw life.
