No apologies - just noise. Five fierce women crank up the volume to get their voices heard.
Riot Women — Season 1

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Sally Wainwright strikes the right chord in this uproarious delight, including a gusty cast of Riot Women who fiercely showcase their right to rock, no matter their age.

This is classic Wainwright, full of twists and excoriations of societal failure, but louder, punkier, and more inclined to rock out. Go to Full Review

Scanlan as Beth is particularly compelling. Watching her unfurling joy and sense of regained power as she writes and performs songs conveying burning feelings and thoughts is marvellous. Go to Full Review

The characters are so finely observed, and their emotional lives so wonderfully textured, that I’d happily have watched them just go about their days. Go to Full Review

These women seem real: imperfect, cranky, occasionally delightful, and incredibly angry at being disregarded by a world that used to value them. Go to Full Review

Joanna Scanlan, Lorraine Ashbourne, and Rosalie Craig lead a stellar ensemble of "middle-aged" women whose characters’ arcs aren’t afraid of exploring the most challenging aspects of the human, and especially female, experience. Go to Full Review

Aye E @RT43717499 May 20 Wow!! I thought this would be some forgettable cutesy feel-good thing I could watch to waste some time. How wrong I was! It's certainly feel-good but in a inspirational, moving, and dramatic way. It was so good I accidentally binged the whole thing in one evening, I intended on stopping and couldn't! This is surprisingly emotionally complex as both a really heavy show but with some women just trying to have fun and find a way to be themselves despite the reality of the world. This is my demographic and I couldn't be happier to see something this joyously rebellious. I was a little bummed the season was so short, but appreciate that the episodes were long, so it all evens out I guess. But I CAN'T WAIT for Season 2 to really see these women get some payback!!! See more Jo J @SpiritOfTheSun13 May 7 Refreshing to have an exhilarating show focused on this demographic, I would say under presented and in such a dynamic way. Love the location so its a feast for my Londoner's eyes in many ways. Difficult subjects handled well. Appreciate these subjects being given exposure. All were relatable. Loved the characters and the chemistry. LOVED the music throughout. I'm similar to this demographic. I do hope there will be further seasons. LOVED it from start to finish and was sad when it ended. Have rewatched a few times already and will do so again I'm sure. Well done all and thank-you. See more Cindy M @CindyCindy Apr 26 Powerfully written and acted drama with comedic nuance, Riot Women plays on the challenges women face head on as they mature. The storyline is simple, disparate women come together (by design and happenstance) to form the complex bonds. Stellar writing allows each character to develop fully enough that viewers can connect on some level with each of them. The men in the series are almost all mysoginist, cruel and/or emotionally stunted which if it continues into series too will be the one off note. ALL men aren't like that, even if most seem to be... The powerful voice or Rosalie Craig and the BAFTA-worthy acting holds the series together, however all actors are BAFTA-worthy in their performances. See more George R @RT56969851 Feb 21 Everything about this series is dazzlingly brilliant, the casting, sets, location, actors, writing, direction. along with terrific music. It may be the best TV we've seen in years and certainly one of the best in all our many decades of viewing. We were stunned by this utterly , excellent piece of work. See more Read all reviews
