A spinoff of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine" is set on a space station near the planet Bajor. This time, Commander Benjamin Sisko is in charge of a diverse crew. But unlike other "Star Trek" series, there's no USS Enterprise to help them. Sisko and the crew must fight off rival alien species who want control of Deep Space Nine because of its strategic position close to a wormhole, which allows speedy travel to the far reaches of space.

I will forever be grateful to the writers, actors, and producers of this show for not only showing what Black people are forced to deal with, but also being intentional in showing that we are capable of love. Go to Full Review

Special effects during the extensive battle sequences, with fleets of starships attacking each other in outer space, are unprecedentedly complex for Star Trek. Go to Full Review

It's an exciting and moving close to a series that still had so much life left in it. Major arcs are brought to an end and entirely new ones are begun, but the most important thing is that the show left on its own terms and in its own way Go to Full Review

Star Trek's first Black Captain, Benjamin Sisko, is an amazing character whose Blackness never feels dialed down. Go to Full Review
Ted Olsen Christianity Today 04/16/2020
By doing away with Gene Roddenberry's ridiculous utopian vision of the future (no poverty, no colds, no racial strife), DS9 had a much more realistic view of the human condition. And, unlike the other series, it rarely offered good-vs-evil plots. Go to Full Review

See more David K 10/10/2024 One of the best science fiction shows in the history of TV! My favorite heroes, my favorite series and my favorite franchise! See more Goran K @Maidros 12/07/2023 Even 20 years later, after having rewatched DS9 for two or three times, I am still left yearning at the last episodes. I get a desire to return right back to the humble beginnings of the characters and to see them in the more innocent setting of the first few seasons, for, by the end of the final season, the characters are utterly changed, and the universe they inhabit is shaped into a living, breathing world owing to the meticulous care from the writers, actors, and directors. I hope a day will come when I will watch another Star Trek series of this quality and soul. See more Louis F @Rene.J 06/05/2023 DS9 could have been so much more. This final season is the big redeemer for the whole show, but it is very late into the series. Some of the long-running storylines were rushed to an end, or diluted by some directionless sub-plots. Still, this is the best season by far. Find an online source that identifies the Dominion War episodes and watch those. Find another list of the best DS9 episodes. The rest, watch those on 1,5 speed or skip them altogether. See more Read all reviews
