Brian Grazer serves as an executive producer of this drama set in the world in and around the Chicago Playboy Club of the early 1960s. Nick Dalton (Eddie Cibrian), a powerful attorney with ties to the mob, comes to the aid of a beautiful new bunny (Amber Heard) who has accidentally killed the leader of a crime family. Nick is further connected to the club by his girlfriend, an established star whose days as a bunny may be numbered. Among the ladies working at the club is Brenda, who is trying to become the first black Playboy playmate.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite a sharp period look, The Playboy Club is weighted down by stock characters, ludicrous plotting, and overheated attempts at social commentary.

Teevee overlords need to stop driving new television shows forward which depend on this year's fad to explain their existence. Go to Full Review

Male-dominated fantasies, mostly - and for all its nostalgic glamour, NBC's Playboy Club gets stuck between its roots in a pre-liberation era and the reality of women's prominence in modern television. Go to Full Review

Predictable stock characters in over-thought but cliched situations. Go to Full Review

The pilot spends a lot of time setting up the murder cover-up and love triangle, but none of it seems to pay off. Both plot strings are hopelessly rote and boring, which has a lot to do with Cibrian being devoid of any charisma. Go to Full Review

It's best if we never mention Mad Men again when discussing The Playboy Club. It's reductive and demeaning. Because, honestly, The Playboy Club is perfectly capable of being a terrible show all on its own. Go to Full Review

While options during the era were surely limited, the show's broad strokes don't do justice to the choices women were making. Go to Full Review

01/08/2021 Amber Heard is a shitty actress and horrible human being. "They won't believe you, because you are a man" She is NOT a victim. See more 01/02/2021 Two words: Amber Heard See more 09/13/2020 I went with 2 stars for this show, it got canceled before anyone knew anything about it. So this is hard to review, also the fact that it came out in 2011. A show about wealthy business men going to a club, during this time people were living in a global depression in the world. Alright show not really as bad as people may say, it weird that you never see/saw reruns of it though 2 stars. See more 01/30/2014 Awful show, got cancelled for good reason! See more Read all reviews
