When soldier Shaun Emery's conviction for a murder in Afghanistan is overturned due to flawed video evidence, he returns to life as a free man with his young daughter. But as damning CCTV footage from a night out in London comes to light, Shaun's life takes a shocking turn and he must soon fight for his freedom once more. Detective Inspector Rachel Carey is drafted to investigate Shaun's case, but she quickly learns that disentangling misinformation from truth can sometimes be a matter of perspective. In a post-truth era of deepfakes, alternative facts and ubiquitous surveillance, seeing is deceiving; told through the lens of the intelligence community's extraordinary oversight capability, this conspiracy thriller troubles the timely question of whether we can really believe our eyes.

Overall, with its fine performances and tense set pieces, it works well enough. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, both watching closely and not believing anything you see. Go to Full Review

It explores real world issues that a lot of us are talking about right now, from government surveillance to fake news. Go to Full Review

The brilliance of The Capture is that it is at once extremely silly and entirely plausible. Go to Full Review

The Capture has been impeccably cast and acted (Ron Perlman is wonderful as a cynical CIA overlord with a finger in everybody’s pie), but its real power is that of a wakeup call. Go to Full Review

It became a drama somewhat at odds with itself: less outlandish tech effects wouldn’t have been as much fun to watch... Even so, it was exciting to give in and go along for the ride. Go to Full Review
Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) 09/09/2022
The Capture was glossy nonsense in a Spooks meets The Undeclared War way, but the cast, led by Grainger and now with the equally watchable Paapa Essiedu as an ambitious government minister, is top notch. Plus, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Go to Full Review

Robin H Jan 22 Season one was terrific. Season two is disastrous. Attempts to continue the interesting theme of how modern technology can distort the public's appreciation of the news, but is so full of holes and implausible scenarios that this viewer gave up half way through. See more liz R Mar 11 One of the best twisty final episode of an already gripping and alarmingly relevant storyline. Watch it! See more carlosbpvp Mar 10 Check the differences between the critics’ and audience’s responses to The Capture. We live in an era when you can trust audience members more than critics. This show has a lot to recommend it: the high-stakes intrigue centered around contemporary themes, the who-done-it element, although by season 2 that becomes obvious, and the strong acting that makes much of the implausible premises and character reactions appear gripping instead of laughable. The problem by the end of Season 2 is that the show’s antagonists, bad guys, negative force, what have you, are too big and powerful for the narrative wrap-up to ever be satisfying. It’s the same problem Game of Thrones, the show and book series, have had. And while the GoT show rushed through two seasons to come up with what the creators thought was a satisfying end, that left few if any viewers happy, The Capture rushes through its impossible denouement in the last 7 minutes of the finale. The plucky, smart British heroine upends the machinations of intelligence services all over the world, including her own, from the very heart of headquarters as her higher-ups think they finally got her under control. This is an absolutely ridiculous ending that reveals the creators of The Capture, a la George RR Martin, and many other so-called creatives today, had written themselves into a corner. They decided to get out of said corner by knocking down the room and the entire structure with it. If you watch this show, do what’s most sensible with serial programming that at first seems exciting and promising, don’t go beyond Season 1 See more florencia L @Florencel Mar 6 Oh well, that was a surprise. To be completely honest, session 1 was ...weak for the topic, but with an interesting idea and cast. Season 2, well, it reached its potential. Great performances, well-defined characters, clear storyline, entertaining, enjoyable. I am actually pleased. See more Read all reviews
