Its somewhat uneven storytelling aside, The Drowning emerges as a potent thriller, largely thanks to a stellar cast. Go to Full Review

You were propelled forward not so much to find out what did happen to Tom/Daniel, but to discover how this would get out of the many corners it had painted itself into. Go to Full Review

It's a no-nonsense thriller, competently acted by its leads to keep us guessing: Halfpenny plays Jodie as a woman who could equally be deluded by grief or bang on the money; Penry-Jones's character is inscrutable. Go to Full Review

A well-written, well-acted psychological mystery. Go to Full Review

The Drowning may sound like a been-there-done-that detective yarn of no particular distinction. But, tightly shot and edited, it's a marvel of efficient story-telling. And Halfpenny gives an absolutely riveting performance. Go to Full Review

Lisa R @RT60513823 03/07/2023 Good series, really enjoyed it! If I had one complaint it would be Jodie's Mother! Good lord, her acting was atrocious! Was she the tea lady for the cast and stepped in last minute? I don't know who thought she would be a good actress for the part, but the word ‘cardboard' comes to mind watcher her!! It's a shame when just one person ruins the whole show… See more Daniel B @RT88101556 01/14/2023 Time i will never get back, the story line is horrendously bad, far fetched nonsense. Cant believe i chose to watch this over match of the day. See more 05/27/2022 It is just so so bad. The storyline starts off a bit mad and then quickly unravels into a series of completely nonsensical scenes which you can tell even the actors aren't buying. A classic Channel 5 series but I cannot believe Netflix bought it. See more 05/26/2022 Absolute codswallop. The writers should be ashamed to have dispensed with any links to procedural accuracy. The script editor should be ashamed for accepting their salary. The director should have stopped filming in order to check that they were really expected to turn such tripe into acceptable television, and the actors, who did their best, might think about getting different agents. Egregiously badly written, when the potential was there to create a drama that was simultaneously an edge of the seat thriller, and heartbreakingly poignant. It failed to rise above being risible. See more pete w @Pete-W 02/24/2022 Francesca Brill and Luke Watson should have their writing credentials revoked. Ridiculous, implausible, far-fetched story. I felt sorry for MI-5's Adam, a new low for him. See more Callison D @Moscow 08/29/2021 A great mystery thriller, about whether her 4 year old son actually did reappear 9 years later. Her rather cold dysfunctional family is of no help when she find spots a boy who is the spitting image of her son. She goes through great lengths, such as getting a job at his school, to get close to him, convinced he is her son. He relates well to her also having patently lost his mother when he was 4. His father is at a loss to explain anything and is angry and hot-headed. Lots of twists and turns and exciting characters in little subplots (the best friend, the people who work for her) While it seems certain what happened there is A plot twist you could not have seen coming. Watched all 4 in a row! Couldn't stop. See more Read all reviews
