Critic Reviews for Work in Progress Season 1
All Critics (27) | Top Critics (17) | Fresh (27) | Rotten (0)
"Work in Progress" isn't very funny, but it has plenty of heart thanks to co-creator Abby McEnany's performance.
The most radical queer show to ever make its way to television.
It seems set to be an altogether warm, wonderful, brave, hilarious show that skimps neither on the comedy nor on the pressing of points of acute and chronic pain.
Work in Progress brings the laughs but it also brings the love.
Just tune in. I promise you won't be disappointed.
With such a sweet central character, even an "ouch" moment becomes an "ah!" of empathy.
With buttery, wry humor, the series digs at the loneliness and isolation one can feel as a queer person under capitalism.
Mature comedy is honest, irreverent, and heartfelt.
At a time when every series is struggling to stand out and make a mark, Work In Progress does so quietly, beautifully, effortlessly.
A lot of teachable moments come about so organically on Work in Progress, and I hope that becomes a mainstay.
Work in Progress's debut is smart, full of heart, and very funny.
One of the most honest and funny shows we've seen all year.

Jan 07, 2021A very fresh, unique take on LGBTQ+ culture, mental health, and comedy. Totally endearing cast, even when they're in tough situations
-
Apr 19, 2020To much personal conflict and just not entertaining.
-
Feb 13, 2020There is nothing even mildly entertaining about this series. I watched two episodes and then could no longer stand the torture. I am 100% supportive of LBQT so that is not the problem. If you think being fat and extremely ugly is funny then I guess you've found your show. I don't usually review a show, but I wanted to be one lone wolf. In case you were wondering why you were the only person who did not appreciate this difficult to watch series, I'm here to support your opinion.

Jan 31, 2020This show is amazing. It's hilarious without despairing even as the main character despairs. The characters are real, and funny. The situations are hilarious. The experiences are breathtaking. This is a work of genius.
-
Jan 30, 2020Terrible acting by Theo Germaine. The plot is boring. I watched the entire season thinking it would get better, but no such luck.
-
Jan 30, 2020Hilarious, honest, and heartwarming. Abby McEnany's is a voice that is really worth hearing.
