Frank Burt

Frank Burt (born Augustus Berek) was an American film and TV screenwriter best known as co-writer of the 1955 James Stewart-starring western "The Man from Laramie." Burt, the son of vaudeville performers, performed for several years with his wife as the comic duo Burr and Rosedale. Burt retired for a time from show business in the 1930s, briefly working as a refrigerator salesman. While he would never again return to performing, he did re-emerge in entertainment as a successful writer of radio teleplays in the late '30s. As radio plays transitioned to television dramas in the 1950s, Burt adapted with the times, writing numerous scripts for early TV serials such as "Your Favorite Story," as well as scripts for the TV western "The Restless Gun" and crime drama "Dragnet." He also found some acclaim for his film screenplays, including the historical drama about legendary highway robber Dick Turpin "The Lady and the Bandit," the swashbuckler adventure story "The Bandits of Corsica," and the classic Anthony Mann-directed western "The Man from Laramie."
