What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Madison may not be an all-inclusive stay, but it offers a top-tier Michelle Pfeiffer, beautiful East Coast locations, and an expansion of the Taylor Sheridan universe, which is satisfying enough.

Yes, these women are ridiculous, as many of Sheridan’s women are. But, after so many seasons of the rich Duttons playing country on their show, there is something purifying about the divisions Sheridan sets out to explore in The Madison. Go to Full Review

Some scenes and concepts in The Madison are absurd in the extreme, like the idea that the streets of New York are more dangerous than any wild west. But there also are moments of true beauty and calm. Go to Full Review

Michelle Pfeiffer enters the Taylor Sheridan universe in stellar form even when he sinks her in a Montana vs Manhattan grudge match that’ll bore you breathless. Go to Full Review
Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 1d
“The Madison” moves at the snail’s pace of Sheridan’s “1923” -- and the music score sometimes sounds nearly identical -- but “The Madison” also borrows some of the humor that’s made Sheridan’s “Landman” a hit. Go to Full Review

Compared to the brilliance of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in 1923, this feels shallow and a little soulless. Go to Full Review

I appreciated what Taylor Sheridan is showing us through the Montana landscape and culture as it’s what farm girl Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz" encounters, upon arriving in the land of Oz, saying, "Toto,"I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore." Go to Full Review

Thomas M. @RT87450875 3d OMG! This show makes a Hallmark Christmas movie look Oscar worthy. God help anyone who feel this movie portrays real life, real people or real emotion. Do yourself a favor and do not watch it. See more Keith E @Keubanks63 3d First, it is a pleasure to see Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer working together again. This was reason enough to watch the first episode, and after the first, I couldn't stop watching. The Madison is beautiful visually, and in the telling of the story. I watched most of it with tears in my eyes. Every character is perfectly cast, and they are familiar in a way that gets under your skin. Michele Pfeiffer is heartbreakingly vulnerable and naturally beautiful. She is a powerful presence and centers the series, but that doesn't work without Kurt Russell. His character is the foundation for a deeply resonate love story, and the chemistry with Michele is undeniable. I enjoyed getting to know all of these characters, and even when they are understandably at their worst, I found myself invested in the hope that they would all find their way, somehow, to a more authentic life. I'm trying to avoid spoilers, just in case. The Madison made me feel more optimistic about my own human journey. See more Richard S @RichieS 6d I'm perplexed by the negative reviews. Ignore them! Another awesome Taylor Sheridan-written series. Great performances. I hope there's more coming. See more Boston W. @Bostonwade May 8 What a moving series. Coming from a guy who likes action and such. This was excellent. See more Kris S @RT29261951 May 7 After watching several Taylor Sheridan shows, I admire his work and this continues it. His focus on land, nature, and older traditions stands out. Montana is shown with real beauty, which I appreciate having lived there for a year. The contrast with city life can feel exaggerated, but it's a way to make clearer how urban living can disconnect us from deeper values, community, and the rhythm of nature, and not toward status and surface priorities. Where I struggle more is the repeated ideal of a singular "great love of your life" and marriage as a kind of ultimate destiny. It feels a bit overstated and can risk distorting expectations around relationships by presenting a rare, idealized version of romantic love as the norm. The show is strongest in its sense of place and belonging. The connection to land and small-town interdependence feels grounded and authentic, and often the most emotionally real part of the story. I would have liked even more emphasis on friendship, community etc. See more Simone B @Belle19 May 7 I usually like his work, but the tropes are tired Taylor. The dangers of the ominous big city (yes you can bike ride and walk in NY), the "woke is bad" virtue signaling (pretty sure no one would give a second thought to describing their attacker), incompetent city slickers (seriously who doesn't know how charcoal lighter works), the superiority of "quaint" country life (call me crazy, but I don't think most country folk are taking a dump outside in 2026), the "weak" husband constantly berated by his unhinged, overbearing wife, I could go on and on. Just feels lazy at this point. I read he's parting ways with Paramount, hopefully his next project will be better. See more Read all reviews
