Joined his first soccer league at age 5; scored seven goals in the first game. Signed his first pro contract with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany at age 16, becoming the youngest American player to sign a contract with a foreign team. Competed in 2000 Olympics, helping the U.S. advance to the second round for the first time in history.  Is the youngest U.S. player to reach 100 caps (international appearances). Has been an All-Star player for the San Jose Earthquake and the Los Angeles Galaxy, leading both teams to MLS championships. After his father was diagnosed with skin cancer, joined with the Skin Cancer Foundation to form the Sun Blunders, which educates men on protecting themselves from sun exposure.
