Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) Eden Munro While there's nothing wrong with a lightweight, thrill-a-minute Indiana Jones adventure... there’s just no excuse for taking 20 years to get around to a film that disappoints increasingly as the reels roll on.

Godzilla (1998) Russell Mulvey Godzilla is worth seeing -- the monster, that is. "Godzilla" the film is a little less worthwhile. Considering the magnitude of its star, this film is a very minor addition to the genre.

Wild Things (1998) Patrick Vuong This film has put a little originality to the suspense genre in the same manner as the two Scream movies have done for horror.

The Big Lebowski (1998) Russell Mulvey All of this is more or less entertaining if only because of the slack-jawed performance of Jeff Bridges as the Dude. His portrayal of a man who is content with his total lack of ambition is really quite good.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) Brian Gibson [It's] a torpid, dreary continuation of what's becoming the Dumbledore Reunion Tour, this is puff and smoke-fantasy without splendor, joy, fun, or much color at all.

Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018) Brian Gibson It's a devastating portrait of our laborious despoliation of the earth (trudging through sludge is its signature shot). This survey of our destructive impact seems like a post-mortem.

Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (2018) Chelsea Novak The Grinch took out too much, without adding much of anything. It wasn't Seussian enough and didn't add enough of an original plot to hold adult interest. Its humor also fell flat.

Best F(r)iends: Volume 2 (2018) Brian Gibson A tedious, sluggish connecting of smeared plot points, the story dawdles and dallies.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018) Jake Pesaruk The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a formidable first outing for the Coens on a streaming format, but there is no doubt that this narrative six-shooter has a couple of duds.

Overlord (2018) Jake Pesaruk Overlord harkens back to a time when horror didn't have to be thought-provoking or nightmare inducing-because if there's one thing we sometimes forget about the monsters under our bed, it's that they can be a lot of fun.

The Happy Prince (2018) Stephan Boissonneault This film could have been an important piece of queer history that actually had a point to make, but it instead gets lost in pockets of bad and utterly boring writing.

In Search of Greatness (2018) Brian Gibson In Search of Greatness, the latest from Gabe Polsky (Red Army), explores the passion, obsessiveness, and creativity in sports. But, though intriguing and sometimes adrenalizing, this search stumbles.

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) Brian Gibson As it is, Bad Times at the El Royale ends up feeling like a long drive in a slow-building desert storm: vast, arid stretches of story between lightning-flashes of action.

A Star Is Born (2018) Heather Gunn It's heartfelt, well-paced, and gut-wrenchingly tragic, with the gorgeous music and two main characters taking centre stage by grabbing hold of the audience's emotion until the very last second.

The House With a Clock in Its Walls (2018) Miya Abe It's too bad this film wasn't effective enough to present that message of indomitability in a stronger, more engaging way, because kids need it now more than ever.

Sorry to Bother You (2018) Stephan Boissonneault It feels like Riley approached making his movie like making a concept album. Sorry To Bother You has three parts to it and loves to change tone, genre, and plot to an extent, in a flavourful way that keeps you entertained.

Shock and Awe (2017) Jake Pesaruk What could have been an important and timely film in an era of distrust in journalism is sadly wasted. The film bombards its audience with surgically rapid scenes that feed as much information as possible with no emotional pay off.

Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018) Jake Pesaruk Sadly, the movie has a hard time picking a villain to stick with... That coupled with a flat ending... results in Ant-Man and the Wasp just barely making it past passable, without earning itself a spot in the ranks of summer romp.

Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018) Brian Gibson And what remains so pleasantly surprising is how slyly and smoothly, from start to finish, this chronicle of a much-beloved children's program goes against the grain of the Trump era.

Adrift (2018) Brian Gibson What emerges, most remarkably, is how one 24-year-old's sense of herself, for nearly six weeks on the planet's largest ocean, slipped and shifted but found enough resolve, enough of a polestar-force guiding her on, to keep her not just adrift, but alive.
