In Los Angeles, siblings Ellie (Christina Ricci) and Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg) come across an accident on Mulholland Drive. As they try to help the woman caught in the wreckage, a ferocious creature attacks them, devouring the woman and scratching the terrified siblings. They slowly discover that the creature was a werewolf and that they have fallen victim to a deadly curse. Now that they have been sliced by the werewolf's claws, they will be transformed into werewolves themselves.

The creative team behind Scream, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, come together again for the supernatural thriller Cursed. After being attacked by a wolf-like creature Elle and her brother start to undergo some strange changes and begin to suspect that they're becoming werewolves. Starring Christina Ricci, Jesse Eisenberg, Milo Ventimiglia, and Judy Greer, the cast is rather impressive (though their performances aren't). And, the film does a fair job at creating mystery and suspense. However, the CGI werewolf effects are extremely poor and don't deliver any frights or scares. An underwhelming and subdued horror film, Cursed doesn't offer anything new to the genre.

I really loved seeing Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg together. They are a terrific acting pair and they are among the most positive aspects of the film. There's also a lot of good jokes and a few scary moments. Although not a classic werewolf film like Lon Chaney Jr's The Wolf Man that helped inspire it, Cursed is the best cheesy movie i've ever seen.

'Cursed's' two main problems are that it is poorly edited and doesn't know how to use homosexual metaphors well. Most viewers dislike 'Cursed' largely because they saw the butchered PG-13 version and not the R-Rated one I saw, but more importantly they disliked it because the humour and horror were haphazardly thrown together and left dangling on a thin plot. Fair enough. The obvious in-the-closet jock does nothing for the movie or any theme Williamson may have wanted 'Cursed' to have. With that said, with bad acting everywhere, there is the reliable Jessie Eisenberg and the ravishing Christina Ricci to help keep the movie together. The first hour is atmospheric and enjoyable with a few quality death scenes then comes act three . . . hello production hell. Is it going to be a cheesy wink-wink horror movie (the ludicrous middle finger exchange; hell, the costume; wait, the explanations for everything; oh wait, not to mention no surprises) or a tense, classic Craven-Williamson teaming to save the day? The result is a third act dictated by some incompetent producers while a crew and staff frantically try to fix everything. 'Cursed' is all over the globe, makes bad casting choices, uses asinine music, and has a narrative as geometric as a blowing rainfall. With that said, and horror fans (perk up your ears) discarding this Craven effort, there's a lot in the way of cheesy horror and some nice gore scenes (a woman cut in half dragging her body for a good ten seconds), autumn atmosphere, cloudy nights spinning and emitting the static howling of an old genre being animally abused by big Hollywood. There is enough of what horror fans want in this opus of a mess. Horror and Craven fans only.
