See more Rusty-James R @JackRay05 Aug 28, 2026 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a fantastic adaptation of the 1964 book of the same name, written by Roald Dahl. It feels like the book came to life with stellar performances across the cast. The children are all satisfyingly terrible, and updated from the book in a way that makes sense for the modern era. The sets are gorgeous and gothic, and they feel like a twisted fantasy. Something vaguely realistic, but taken from a dream. The acting, the songs, the atmosphere, it's perfect. Willy Wonka, himself, was played in a unique way by Johnny Depp. He felt like a byproduct of his childhood, which is told in a backstory unique to the film. I think the backstory was a great addition, and if felt like something Dahl might have concocted. Charlie, played by Freddie Highmore, was also pleasant to watch, displaying that some children know sacrifice at such a young age, which sadly, people say have him act unrealistically saintly. That is just untrue. This is my favorite film of all time. This version was all Tim Burton dark quirkiness, and the way Johnny played him was just creepy, not charming but with an edge like Gene Wilder's interpretation. I went in wanting to like it BECAUSE of Johnny Depp, but I was sadly disappointed. And the backstory between Willy Wonka and his father was just murky, dark and not really interesting at all. I feel like it was trying to give him some symphony but your a grown man.. I'm just saying this man should be in jail for chihild abuse 😭and the parents have no brain GET YOUR CHILD ...
