In this fascinating documentary, director Yun Suh takes viewers to a destination rarely (if ever) analyzed in film: a gay bar located in Jerusalem. The bar, Shushan, functions as a unique meeting ground of sexuality, religion and nationality -- a seemingly unlikely microcosm of acceptance. Suh follows five of Shushan's frequent patrons (both Israelis and Palestinians) as they search for love and happiness in a turbulent and often unaccommodating land.

06/28/2012 What City of Borders doesn't do is really get to know all the people it profiles in Jerusalem. Sure, we get a superficial overview of who they are and the situation, but to get to the bottom of it-to truly understand what happens-we need to go deeper, farther, with more time and more interviews. City of Borders is a good first step, but it's just that. A first step. What is presented on screen is put together well; City of Borders is hamstrung by its running time; this is a subject that demands more time, not less.
