What to Know

Critics Consensus

A skeptical exposé on high fashion whose insights might be shallower than the industry it critiques, Couture makes its most persuasive statement through Angelina Jolie's emotionally unvarnished performance.

This film is less about moving on than about inviting us into the moments of these women’s lives, presented with insight and compassion. Go to Full Review

Jolie is a formidable actor, and she makes you believe both in Maxine’s initial disbelief and, a little later, in her whirring sense of urgency. Go to Full Review

Kat 2h Pure, Raw Cinema: Why You Need to See 'Couture' in Theaters! If you are tired of sterile Hollywood blockbusters built on green screens and CGI, Alice Winocour’s Couture is the exact antidote you’ve been waiting for. This is cinema in its purest, most human form—a masterclass in raw emotion, gripping drama, and the beautiful complexity of real life. I am completely in awe of this film, and honestly, the negative reviews miss the point entirely. Winocour strips away the superficial glamour of Paris Fashion Week to look at the "stitches" holding real women together. The storytelling doesn't rely on cheap special effects it relies on the human face, unspoken tension, and deeply moving life situations that echo long after the credits roll. My partner and I couldn’t stop debating and unpacking the film’s subtle, untold backstories for hours after leaving the theater. Angelina Jolie is simply fantastic. She delivers a quiet, heartbreaking, and deeply vulnerable performance as Maxine that anchors the entire piece, matched beautifully by a phenomenal supporting cast. If you want to support authentic, European arthouse filmmaking that actually makes you feel something, buy a ticket. It is a striking reminder of why we go to the movies. See more Clarissa H 1d Sorry, I really, really wanted to like this. There were three different storylines and no real character development - not enough to truly care and no chemistry with the love interest. The only emotional scene I believed from Jolie was near the end when she was speaking to her daughter (because I am sure it resonated with her own loss of her mom- I believed her there.) But seemed hyper aware of the camera. Trying to be deep sometimes just doesn’t work. See more love H @horrorfan123 21h It was good I really liked it good acting. See more joel G @davidbondo 23h I thought it was a good movie from the standpoint of finding out if Angelina jolie still has the acting chops to make a winning movie since we haven't seen her on screen inmany years. And she does. Its just that this boring slogfest is not a good plot/ and not a interesting storyline for her at all.. That fact that she can play a dying woman and speak French was also impressive but not impressive enough to keep one interested in this slow paced sluggish flick.final grade C minus. to D plus.. you choose. See more Mario Galaxy Movie is good I @MarioGalaxyMovieIsgood 1d It is fitting that the title is a mere two letters from saying "torture" See more RedSkye 1d Angelina Jolie knocked it out of the park. Her emotions were raw and real. I never knew she spoke French fluently which added to the feel of the movie. I adored this movie. See more Read all reviews
