As a film noir, it works moderately with its tale of extortion and journalistic ethics, but even by presenting a convincing role from Humphrey Bogart, it cannot correct the weaknesses of a superfluous and predictable plot. [Full review in Spanish]

Windy, self-righteous newspaper film, written and directed by Richard Brooks in a fair reflection of the way journalists think about themselves when they've had a few too many.

Bogart gives a convincing performance all the way, from his constantly harassed deadline existence, his personal romantic stale-mate, and his guts in avenging the beating given his crime reporter.

Although it was made over a half-century ago, expect to find plenty of topicality in Deadline - U.S.A., a sturdy drama about life at a big-city newspaper.

Deadline-U.S.A. is set in a fantasy world, although the pleasantness of that fantasy (like most nostalgia about the 1950s) depends on whether or not you are a straight white man.

Bogart is terrific as the no-nonsense editor who infects his staff with idealism. Supporting actors Stewart, Stevens, and Begley are outstanding as believable newspaper heroes.
