Probably one of the best looking flight films of all time, truly a marvel at how this was filmed for the time. It's mostly a documentary though on all the logistics that goes into the training and testing of this world rather than a good story of any kind which makes it a bit dull from a story perspective. I feel like Christopher Nolan used this to prep for DUNKIRK.

A decent attempt at showing how war progresses technology, specifically in aviation in this instance. In colour with flying scenes that are very well shot for the time this is certainly a production that had plenty of money behind it - ironically probably only because of the war and its propaganda value.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012 (1941) Dive Bomber WAR/ DRAMA/ BIOGRAPHICAL Directed by Michael Curtiz starring Errol Flynn, the last one of 12 movies they did together. This is a reflection of an actual event regarding "flight surgeons" or military researchers during WWII, Flynn as the optimistic doctor military surgeon solving altitude sickness upon airplane diving. It was involving until the pro- propogandish ending regarding the Fred Mac Murray character as Joe Blake. Also consider that this film was made during WW II so perhaps it had to end the way it did was because people were still at war meaning that it had to contend with this one instead of showing a different one. The 12 Movies Curtiz/ Flynn collaborated include: 1941 Dive Bomber 1940 Sante Fe Trail 1940 The Sea Hawk 1940 Virginia City 1939 The Private Lives Of Elizabeth and Essex 1939 Dodge City 1938 Fours A Crowd 1938 Adventures Of Robin Hood 1937 The Perfect Speciman 1936 The Charge Of The Light Brigade 1935 Captain Blood 1935 The Case Of The Curious Bride 3 out of 4 stars

Amazing aviation cinematography for its time! It was rather hilarious to see Errol Flynn not interested in women (for a change). Fred MacMurray gave a nice performance as the rugged counterpart to Flynn's more sensitive niche.

So be it, settle the score...released four months before Pearl Harbor.

Dive Bombers was better than what I expected, much better. I think it can be close to a good classic, exceptionally good acting (Fred MacMurry, Errol Flynn, and Ralph Bellamy), that was true to its word. they just had to cut out the lame comedy with the navy, didn't fit in at all. Although it was an Interesting and simple story, with a nice ending to end it all.

The Allen Jenkins comedy bits are tedious and get in the way of the interesting medical drama. I personally don't believe the spy story surrounding this flick, and find the story compelling.

An uncharacteristic dramatic film with Errol Film. A little deeper and entertaining.
