Ida Rolf - Mother of Fascia follows Dr. Ida P. Rolf through her life, chronicling an extraordinary journey and shedding light on her personal experiences, her passions, and the many obstacles she overcame. The film traces the origins of her philosophy, which took form in the method she called Structural Integration, and it credits her pioneering recognition of fascia -- the groundwork on which modern fascial research now rests. Rolf trained as a biochemist, took her doctorate at Columbia University and published sixteen academic papers between 1919 and 1927. In 1926 she left her academic post in New York to study mathematics and atomic physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, and biochemistry at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. She identified the structural significance of fascia decades before the imaging technology existed to examine it.
