Movie Info

French filmmakers Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau write and direct the coming-of-age drama My Life on Ice. Teenager Étienne (Jimmy Tavares) gets a video camera for his birthday and begins recording the life around him in Rouen, France. He uses his camera to capture his mother Caroline (Ariane Ascaride), his teacher Laurent (Jonathan Zaccai), and his friend Ludovic (Lucas Bonnifait). He even turns the camera on himself during his ice skating practice as he trains for a big figure skating competition. Étienne begins to question his own developing sexuality as those close to him get tired of his constant videotaping. My Life on Ice was shown at the 2002 Locarno International Film Festival.

subtle, sacrificing obvious plot points for a kind of ambivalence and subtlety that feels very natural
