Movie Info

A woman wonders how much she should sacrifice for the sake of her relationship in this drama from Bosnian filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic. Luna (Zrinka Cvitesic) and her boyfriend Amar (Leon Lucev) have been together for two years; she's a flight attendant and he works at the airport with the ground crew. Luna and Amar have been trying to have a baby without success, and when they discover Amar's low sperm count is to blame, he falls into a depression and begins drinking heavily. Amar is fired for reporting to work drunk, and an old friend, Bahrija (Ermin Bravo), offers to help by getting Amar a short term job near Lake Jablanica. Amar takes the job, and though Luna misses him, she thinks some time away from the city would do him good. Luna visits Amar a few weeks later, and he's sober and content, but he's also become acclimated to the ways of the Muslim Wahhabi community in Lake Jablanica. Men and women live in sexually segregated barracks, women must obey strict dress codes, and alcohol and pre-marital sex are strictly forbidden; Amar makes it clear he wants to stay and wants Luna to join him, but she's not certain if she's willing to turn her back on the freedoms of the modern world for his sake. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

"Na Putu" a very disappointing movie from the acclaimed director Jasmila (Grbavica). The movie is chaotic at best with excessive hemorrhaging on late blooming of feminism. Which is a contrast or even the antithesis of the main character. The movie tries to portray rebirth of feminism and rise of individualism in war torn Bosnia . But the first 60-odd minutes of the movie take great pain to portray this negatively via the main character. My main grouse with this movie is the portrayal and development characters . Even before radicalization the main character's love interest was screaming loser in any culture but sadly the main character realizes it 70-odd minutes later This movie makes you wonder is this the same Jasmila, who gave us Grbavica or was Grbavica a one hit wonder .

A film that offers some interesting ideas about religion (Islam) and feminism. At times it feels like a passionate outcry against religious extremism. However, it takes to long to get to that point. The first half of the movie drags along as an unrealistic relationship blossoms. The movie doesn't get good until the core relationship deteriorates.
