Woodcock’s sweet confection frames itself around a 24-hour period, and serves comfort food for romantics. The leads are a delight. Go to Full Review

If something seems too hurried or the chemistry between the actors seems off, the whole movie can fall apart. Fortunately for us, in this one, everything works together to leave us with one beautiful night. Go to Full Review

It’s a tough gig keeping a dialogue exchange between two people as they wander through a nocturnal cityscape, yet Woodcock fills the revealing, increasingly intimate interlocution with humour and insight, aided no end by the terrific turn from Kitagawa. Go to Full Review

…One Night in Tokyo is a sweet, heartfelt and emotionally honest film that’s easy to recommend to a target audience... stands out from the crowd by dint of Kitagawa and Emamiyeh’s genuine chemistry, and Woodcock’s sensitive writing and directing… Go to Full Review

Lisa C Sep 5 In a city that never sleeps, betrayal lingers like smoke. One night becomes a reckoning that feels raw, beautifully lit, and quite achingly human. See more Corey J @FilmGuyCorey Sep 4 I really wanted to like this movie. The premise was very intriguing but the acting was horrendous, they wasted 20 minutes early on around a dinner table and a meaningless mundane conversation and the thing I can't get past was that the two main characters first needed a phone translator to communicate. Then they stopped looking at the phone and then the phone was totally gone as they were perfectly understanding each other despite not knowing each other's language. Sadly the movie didn't show off Tokyo at all either. Given the name of the movie I would have hoped it at least felt like it was in Tokyo. This could have happened anywhere. See more Janet A. @Jamflett Aug 19 What is forgivable? How do we handle the hurt of betrayal, especially when we are abroad and alone? This quiet gem explores questions of intimacy, trust, family inheritance, and communication. Through a slowly building rapport between the two main characters we come to know them, as they come to know each other and themselves. A thoughtful and gentle movie. See more ME M Aug 18 Things not going as planned? Do you want to run away? This movie will make you optimistic about the future anyway. It actually manages to make you grateful for what hasn't happened yet. And it is helpful in getting an ear for 日本語. See more Mo D Aug 17 A gem of a movie! Great storyline and wonderful acting! I highly recommend it! See more SkyRo P @TheMovieSearch Jun 15 One Night in Tokyo originally came out in 2024 but didn’t get its main release until 2025. It tells the story of a man who finds himself stranded in Tokyo for a day after flying there to meet his girlfriend — only to find out she called him across the world just to break up in person instead of over the phone. It’s a shady move on her part, lol, but it sets the scene for a cute, if somewhat twisted, love story. I’d say this is definitely a one-time watch — it’s charming and sweet in its own way, but not something I’d revisit over and over. It’s the kind of film you enjoy once, appreciate for what it is, and then move on from. Still, I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for something light, a little unconventional, and a bit dramatic — a cute story for a single sitting. See more Read all reviews
