      Critics Consensus

Liam Neeson is in typically fine form, but Run All Night suffers from a convoluted plot and workmanlike execution. Read critic reviews

      Movie Info

Longtime hit man Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson), best friend of mob boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris), has seen better days. He's haunted both by the sins of his past and a police detective who's been breathing down his neck for 30 years, and the only comfort Jimmy has is whiskey. However, when his estranged son (Joel Kinnaman) becomes a mob target, Jimmy figures that the only way to atone for his past mistakes is to make sure that his son doesn't wind up at the wrong end of a gun.

In his third collaboration with Liam Neeson (who is great in his badass persona), Collet-Serra does play the exhibitionist sometimes, but at least he manages to make this average movie dynamic and fresh despite all of its expository dialogue and how forgettable it is.

Another solid Liam Neeson action/thriller, Full of some good solid action scenes that are done well, The plot isn't nothing new but all the cast were great, I thought the ending was ok but the whole film turned too much into a regular action film and left the suspense out, Much better than Taken 2 and 3 though.

It was actually pretty interesting and thrilling, but if it has Liam Neeson, the bars are high.

Liam Neeson clearly feels comfortable in the niche he has carved out for himself in his career of late. Leading man of the Taken franchise, he is clearly content to fill in the gaps between these films with similarly themed action films with a troubled protagonist leading the charge. Without ever needing to try too hard, mostly thanks to Neeson's effortless everyman sensibilities that anchor this flick, Run All Night falls right into this all-too-familiar moviemaking trope; content to offer nothing new to the genre, but strangely pulling off an entertaining guilty-pleasure experience.
