Movie Info

First romance amidst the timeless beauty of Ireland provides the basis of this tender drama. The story is set in modern times within the County Cavan and centers on Danny, the 18-year-old son of a recently widowed policeman. The story begins soon after the funeral. Father and son are having a row about household responsibilities; the angry Danny ends up running away to constant trouble-maker Prunty's farm. Danny is confused about life until he meets the well-born, beautiful Annagh. Time passes and the two begin to slowly get acquainted. As they do, the previously taciturn Danny begins to show his softer side and one night, deep in a forest glen, the two tenderly become lovers. Unfortunately, Annagh is impregnated and real trouble between the families ensues. Meanwhile Prunty keeps on making trouble; at first it is innocent, but as time passes it becomes more serious.

Audience Reviews for The Run of the Country

★★1/2 (out of four) Fair coming-of-age film set in Ireland. The cast, including Albert Finney and Matt Keelar, is first rate, and the beautiful countryside adds some charms. The overall tone, however, is pretty lightweight and not very memorable. Set along the border of northern and southern Ireland, Albert Finney plays a bored policeman in the tiny Cavan Village. His 18 year old son Danny (Keeslar) blames his faher for the early death of his mother. She had a heart attack while in the middle of a domestic altercation with her husband. Danny rebels and falls for a nothern Ireland girl who his father disapproves of. [IMG][/IMG]
