Indeed, The Great Buster: A Celebration is at its best when it's just Bogdanovich pointing out all the great stuff in Keaton's movies, particularly Buster's mid-'20s peak with Steamboat Bill, Jr. and the stone-cold classic The General.

It's impossible to watch and not get excited about the genius of Keaton's films in particular and the possibilities of cinema in general.

Even with endless biographical facts, he remains an enigma. Maybe that's why that third act is the most successful: Bogdanovich highlights the work, rather than the man, and that alone is a master class worth taking.

It's a relaxed study of greatness, of exquisite physical comedy, of how'd-he-do-that stuntwork, of a vigorous cinema artist who saw new and enduring possibilities for his medium.
