Despite its controversy and its Bone Tomahawk style violence, it has nothing to say, but it says it way too loudly.

It's a sleek, short, well-wrought horror-thriller with buckets of gore, and a sharp performance by Betty Gilpin that deserved far more notice.

The Hunt is a wild, untamed yet enlivening cinematic experience. The dark humor and easy-to-please graphic novel-tinged pulpy violence save the day here.

The Hunt is a wickedly funny, surprisingly gory, dark comedy. Yes, the film is about rich, elite liberals hunting average joe conservatives, but it's not as simple as that.

This Blumhouse social thriller spreads its political, satirical bile on an equal-opportunity basis.

Aspirations aside, The Hunt is long on gratuitous violence, short on political commentary...

... The Hunt is a romp of a social-satire wrapped up in a stupidly violent package that takes its aim at anyone who sits too far to the left or right of any one perspective.

Unfortunately the message ends up coming across as, "Hey we're all the same! If we just came together, we would stop fighting" - a message confirmed in the special features by the filmmakers, btw - and it just doesn't work. ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW.

It's outré-ness is entirely performative, which isn't at all surprising in this climate. In an economy based on what people say rather than what they do, this trend in cinema has been on the cards - it's Twitter writ large on the screen.

The writing is hack, sounding more like an anonymous internet comment than how people actually speak to one another. This poorly-written script crumbles under the smallest amount of pressure.
June 17, 2020
There's so much judgemental snark that scriptwriters Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof come across no better than the trolls they're making fun of.

Cool, fun satire.

The Hunt may turn some viewers off with its thinly-veiled political leanings and somewhat extreme moments of violence, but for those able to accept it as the wild, over-the-top ride that it is, it can be a highly-entertaining and amusing thriller.

As offensive, as fun, as irreverent as it should be. Far from perfect, but this is a kick in the nuts to the politically correct. [Full review in Spanish].

A few decent moments it may have, but ultimately, it makes a mockery of itself.

Gilpin is great and Swank is downright deplorable herself as the evil mastermind behind The Hunt. It helps that they are surrounded by a whole bunch of actors that play their parts well.

It's certainly entertaining, but it was also kind of dumb. A mindless action film that you watch to just put something on. To take this movie literally [in a political sense] is nonsense...

Solid performances that had me sold in it. A lot of surprises at the beginning that kept me engaged, and there was never a lull...

The Hunt is a hilarious, blood-soaked rampage through the culture wars that will, believe it or not, leave you a bit more sympathetic to those that may not share your political leanings.

As effective as any satire can be, the story will fall flat without a compelling protagonist to lead the way through. And Betty Gilpin (GLOW) is more than capable of putting the film on her back.
