Laura Blacklock, jornalista, embarca em um cruzeiro organizado por uma milionária com câncer, que usa seu iate de luxo para arrecadar doações entre amigos. Durante a viagem, Laura vê uma mulher cair ao mar da cabine ao lado, mas ninguém é dado como desaparecido. Sua insistência a faz parecer instável e coloca sua vida em risco. O filme começa com um clima à la Agatha Christie: personagens esnobes, ambiente luxuoso e um mistério que se instala após a queda no mar. Laura não é uma detetive clássica, mas uma repórter obstinada. Porém, a narrativa abandona o suspense investigativo e se torna uma perseguição dentro do iate, com um mistério fácil de decifrar. Keira Knightley e Guy Pearce sustentam a trama, enquanto os demais personagens são superficiais e sem motivações convincentes. Mesmo assim, o filme diverte quem aprecia histórias de "quem é o culpado".
