Very Bad Things is a horrible hoot. It is one of those movies that put you through the wringer. It doesn't tickle the funny bone -- it pulverizes it. You don't know whether to laugh, gasp, or walk out.

Very Bad Things is a deliciously nasty morality tale that simply warns viewers that what goes around comes around.

A Swiftian satire on white yuppies -- it's American Psycho with five psychos.

A vicious, disturbing black comedy that delivers a wickedly entertaining ride if you don't take it too seriously.

His [Berg] one serious mistake is to confuse gore with terror.

The trouble is that Berg doesn't seem sure how to draw matters to a close.

There are some hysterically funny bits, but the excessive violence sometimes kills the laughter.

Berg is so in love with his escalating shock tactics that they quickly cease to shock.

...Berg's listless direction brings the film so little point of view that it doesn't much matter who lives or dies.

It's entertaining to a degree, but lacks all of the elements necessary to form a truly compelling motion picture.

Peter Berg's Very Bad Things isn't a bad movie, just a reprehensible one.

Favreau and Diaz are agreeably blank as the cloying American everycouple, which lays the groundwork for a neat twist, but the film belongs to Slater and the devilish point in the arch of his eyebrow.

Very Bad Things is a well-constructed study of the human psyche and how it eventually cracks under intense pressure.

The gross-out humor lacks edge, the guilt never kicks in, and the outrages are predictable. It's one flat brewski.
