White Dog Reviews

Incredibly well made and great performances. The film isn't racist, the subject matter is, and it's handled very well. This is a very real film about human's manipulating animals as well as children. Even the history of how the film got made is interesting. One of my all time favorites.

Temática mais que relevante, atualíssima, abordada com brilhantismo técnico. Se em vida Fuller não teve o devido reconhecimento, o tempo revelou a contribuição inestimável desta obra socialmente engajada.

Hats off to the screenwriter for pulling off genuine character development for a dog. The concept itself is unique which by default makes the film an intriguing watch. Paul Winfield was excellent here, some shots like the dog viciously running towards someone in slow motion are visually breathtaking, and the film is leisurely paced. The ending is a downer, but I like how it didn't go the happily-ever-after route and instead took a more realistic and grim approach. My only gripes, really, are some rushed plot points. I recommend it regardless.

Filled with enough B movie cheese to be charming and packed with enough tension to keep you interested .

Ignored upon release in 1982, this masterpiece by Samuel Fuller has now joined the pantheon of great movies.

Locked away at the time this is a strong indictment of racism done in a tv-movie kind of way. Low-budget but still strong, there are some incredibly suspenseful moments here and a great soundtrack. The ending is something else too!

An intense & powerful drama about an aspiring actress who finds s stray white dog that is not just a term for its colour but a term for a Dog trained to maul & kill black people by a white extremist owner. A seasoned black trainer decides to rehabilitate the dog despite its vicious nature & obsession to attack any black in sight. A very thought provoking film where the dog is the lead actors & the other actors support its story, a terrific drama from master director Samuel Fuller.

Controversial when released for its concept (the taming of a dog trained to maul black people), White Dog is another instance of Sam Fuller turning the schlocky into the subversive. While certainly shocking in its violence, and occasionally campy with its execution, White Dog features some fantastic filmmaking, including some of the best animal stunts to appear in a film in the 80s. Its topical climate also hasn't aged a day, and it's arguably even more disturbing now. Tightly paced, and lifted by a score by the ever-excellent Ennio Morricone, White Dog is a great latter-day film in Fuller's catalog.
