This eight-part drama features an all-star cast including Jenna Coleman as a young Queen Victoria and Tom Hughes as Prince Albert. The monarch's life is chronicled as the story begins with the death of King William IV in 1837, her accession to the throne at the tender age of 18 and her relationships with the influential forces around her. With the advice of the prime minister Lord Melbourne and the support of her husband Prince Albert the young queen flourishes and establishes herself in her newfound role.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Strong performances by Jenna Coleman and Rufus Sewell hint at Downton-esque potential for Victoria, but the narrative falls just shy of that soapy mark.

We had to get sucked up in their feelings, and the romance of it, but the plotting was accomplished with predictable familiarity rather than imagination. Go to Full Review

What made Downton Abbey work on two levels was the inextricable connection, the symbiotic relationship between the aristocrats and their servants. Victoria seems to have missed that memo. Go to Full Review

Victoria is worth your time, whether you adored Downton Abbey or not, and through the very hard work and dedication of Britain's ITV has delivered PBS another gem to which you might devote your Sundays. Go to Full Review

Jeff B @RT54874440 Feb 12 It's Masterpiece Theater, not a Michael Bay movie, so with those expectations, it's really a good show. Jenna Coleman does an excellent job portraying the Queen, as for the rest of the cast - excellent. Beautiful sets and scenes are really well done. See more Ketemama B. @Ketemama Dec 15 Love it. Smart screenplay, great acting and fabulous costumes and sets. They do make Queen Victoria out to be a very sympathetic character. Not sure how historically accurate that is, however it is very enjoyable. See more Mojo R @RT24546932 01/08/2025 Slow moving and script is a bit stodgy. The only character that really makes a mark is Melbourne (Rufus Sewell). V and A come over as rather boring teenagers, which is maybe what they were !. Little insight into the nature of Victorian England. Can't help feeling that this series could and should have been so much better See more Shahania T @RT26304180 12/01/2022 I am so obsessed with this show! Its one of the most drama free but subtly dramatic historical shows that is also quite comedic. I love how Victoria and Albert's relationship starts off! They are truly a perfect match for each other, filling in the spots the other person is lacking in. See more 02/24/2021 I think it was boring for me and the audience.
