Inside the box are recordings made by Hannah --- on whom Clay had a crush --- in which she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. If Clay decides to listen to the recordings, he will find out if and how he made the list. This intricate and heart-wrenching tale is told through Clay and Hannah's dual narratives.

13 Reasons Why attempts to break away from its first two seasons only to become a melodramatic mess of a murder mystery.

It just feels incredibly exploitative. If you want to have a show that helps you, go elsewhere. Go to Full Review

Every season, the number of women in the cast shrinks, and they're replaced with more tortured boys in increasingly violent situations....It's just more blatant about it now. Go to Full Review

Every time this show almost does something good it just veers off for the lazy sophomoric treatise instead. It's exhausting and it's unpleasant and it's often dangerous, and at this point, there is no reason why it should still be around. Go to Full Review

BRizz 2 @TheMovieSearch Jul 11 Series Review – 13 Reasons Why, Seasons 2–4 (Streaming on Netflix) 13 Reasons Why should have remained a one-season limited series. The first season delivered a powerful, self-contained story that resonated with audiences and sparked conversation. However, Netflix’s decision to extend the series for three additional seasons resulted in a noticeable decline in both quality and impact. Season 2 was passable—it managed to hold interest by expanding on the consequences of the first season, even though it already felt like a stretch. But Seasons 3 and 4 fell off entirely. The storytelling became convoluted, and the show lost the emotional weight and focus that made it stand out in the beginning. It felt like the writers were grasping at straws, trying to extend a narrative that had already reached its natural end. This is a prime example of what happens when a strong concept is overextended for the sake of popularity. Instead of preserving the legacy of the original season, the continuation diluted its message and impact. The critical and audience reception made it clear that the magic had worn off. One of the more disappointing aspects is how the extended run seems to have impacted the careers of the cast. The lead actress, Katherine Langford, had been positioned for major opportunities—reportedly even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe—yet much of that momentum seemed to stall. It’s unfortunate, as many of the young performers gave strong performances, but the show’s direction didn’t support long-term success for its stars. Ultimately, 13 Reasons Why began as a bold, emotional drama with a message—but by the time it wrapped up after Season 4, it felt like a shadow of what it once was. Ending after the first season would have been the strongest choice. See more Anh H @Annhuynh Jun 30 I like this season it was good season See more Alexander S 01/18/2025 13 Reasons Why’s third season takes a significantly worse turn with its continuation. The plot becomes nonsensical and diverges from Hannah’s story. It tries to portray a sympathetic side of the villain who traumatized Hannah and others in the first season. Even new, lifeless supporting characters won’t be able to engage the audience on a season focused on a bully who sexually assaults women and engages in other forms of extreme bullying. This season is utterly lifeless. At least it has some moments of general teenage drama entertainment. Grading: D See more Craig M 01/10/2025 After a horrible season 2, I didn't have high hope. This season was just painfully boring felt like just a drag on as an excuse to keep going. One improved they made however was no retcons! Which is a big deal but still not enough. They should have ended at season 1! See more Peter G @petergrantnc 07/15/2024 If every kid in the world were able to watch this show, we might end all war within a generation. See more Yesake B 06/19/2024 I can appreciate what they were trying to do with focusing on Tyler situation ever since that bathroom scene. But the whole who killed Bryce thing was unnecessary.
