What's interesting about 'An Innocent Man'...is the way it manages to build the basic Arrow story - his targeting of the corrupt in Starling City - around the other characters.
A "case of the week" format fits just right for "An Innocent Man," and offers up plenty of plot twists along the way.
'An Innocent Man' is perhaps Arrow's first truly great episode - a gripping noir that owes more to detective work and morally complex face-offs than it does to the overcooked personal drama that derailed the last couple of episodes.
The good news is that since Diggle is possibly the strongest character in the show, any episode focused heavily on his struggles is bound to benefit.
This week's story, apart several great twists at the end...felt weaker than previous episodes. There was too much speechifying about the nature of Oliver's vigilantism and clunky dialog.
It's too short and sweet an appearance to make much of a judgement on either [John] Barrowman's performance or his character, though we suspect having a familiar face from the cult TV world around certainly won't do Arrow any harm.
Laurel not being able to tell Arrow's true identity really took a toll on my liking for the show--simple mistakes like that can be a deal-breaker for some.
["An Innocent Man"] gave us a deeper look into our hero's time on that island, more machinations from his scheming mother and the first consequences of two secret-identity revelations.
"An Innocent Man" is invested in this effort, expanding supporting characters while simultaneously focusing on the thematic depth inherent within Oliver's vigilantism.
"An Innocent Man" is easily the worst episode of Arrow yet aired, one where the usual foibles don't come off as ineptly charming, but as grating distractions.
