Bespectacled aardvark Arthur Read demonstrates to kids how to deal with such childhood traumas and challenges as homework, teachers and bullies. He also has to contend with his sisters, but loves playing with his friends: tomboy Francine, foodie and best pal Buster, supersmart Brain, rich girl Muffy and geography expert Sue Ellen.

Just as Arthur is a smart boy with lots of playful energy, the show is both educational and lighthearted, weaving themes in so well that they seem to result from -- rather than instigate -- the story. Go to Full Review

Over more than two decades, the show has documented the best and worst of what growing up can be, and its relatable nostalgia still rings true today. Go to Full Review

C 10/09/2024 Arthur just plain sucks 👎🏽. The show is from 1996 or 1997ish and the animation is bad. What type of animal is Arthur? I used to think he was a bear until they said he was an aardvark. He doesn’t even look like one! I can’t even tell what animal Francine and Muffy represent! Anyway, how the adults in the show are- abusive. They are putting their kids in time out for ten or more minutes, and once when Jane (Arthur’s mom) was sick, David (Arthur’s dad) didn’t even changed Kate’s diaper and soon she started crying. Also D.W’s preschool teacher allows time-outs! Were preschools in the 90s like this?? Mr. Ratburn also gives way too much homework - and for third graders! He gives them 5 papers of homework a day! Adults should not be like that to children. Also that Arthur and his friends (who are 8 &9) act surprised that Teachers can marry. How are they surprised? They are old enough to know that! And DW and her friends are bossy (sure four years olds can act that way) but how Emily brags about things like a boy kissed Emily is making DW jealous. 4 year olds should not be worrying about boys kissing them, that is for middle schoolers and high schoolers to worry about! Back to Arthur’s friends. Buster eats nearly everything and Muffy is spoiled. She thinks the world revolves around her. Binky is a bully and he hangs out with fifth graders even though he’s in third grade. Francine is too competitive and she plays a lot of sports even though Mr. Ratburn gives her a lot of homework. And Mr.Ratburn married a guy! I thought this was a children’s show, they’re not supposed to show that! Thank you for reading how bad Arthur is!
