Aside from the clichd dialogue -- "We will find out who did this to her" -- this was truly an implausibility bonanza. Go to Full Review

I am a fan of Sarah Parish, who took the lead role as the tough, dedicated but unhinged detective Elizabeth Bancroft. Yet even her talents couldn't make a silk purse out of what was often a sow's ear of a plot. Go to Full Review
Hugo Rifkind The Times (UK) 12/28/2017
The first big question of fiction is, "yes, but who cares?" and Bancroft didn't come close to answering it. A shame. Go to Full Review

I'll say it again, those Brits certainly know how to make great dramatic television. Go to Full Review
Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) 06/28/2018
Bancroft stumbled from the off only to regain some of its footing by the end. Enough though for a second series? I think LoD's Superintendent Ted Hastings would raise an eyebrow at that. Go to Full Review

Oh, the plot holes, wide as fishnet stockings, the yawnworthy subplots, the joke violence. Go to Full Review

Susan J @CallMeLulu 02/26/2025 Started out super promising. The writing isn't the best but the idea of a young woman police officer who finds herself in a very precarious set of situations--needing and wanting to do a great job but encountering and uncovering some heinous activities is compelling. The actress who plays the young detective, Katherine, is great. The forensics professional is good. The weirdo wily boss (Bancroft) is sufficiently chilling. And the first 2/3 of the series is quite good. I would recommend it. However, suddenly the plot goes off in truly stupid, unrealistic directions. Utterly implausible--not one or 2 things but beat after beat and subplot after subplot are ridiculous and almost insulting--like the writers didn't even care what they were doing. I ended up close to hating it. And then watched Ep 1 of Season 2 and I've never, literally ever, been more disgusted with what a showrunner did with their project. It is absolute rank stinking garbage. I wish so much I didn't bother with Season 1 because Season 2 just lifts its leg and lets loose on the audience.
