The main issue with Blade Runner: Black Lotus is that there isn't really a compelling hook here aside from the Blade Runner bit in the title. Go to Full Review

Black Lotus gets some things right: some of the visuals and definitely the soundtrack are on fine form for the franchise, but the core storyline of an amnesiac killer looking for revenge is bland and surrounded by a cast of really basic archetypes. Go to Full Review

An extension of the franchise that works better visually, recreating the illusion of being in that universe, than narratively. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

At 20 minutes per episode, and 13 episodes in the season, viewers will have plenty of time to get to know the characters. And so far, it is a really promising start. Go to Full Review

Blade Runner: Black Lotus captures the overall vibe and aesthetics established in Ridley Scott's 1982 film. However, the CG animation is underwhelming in 2021. Go to Full Review

Felipe M Feb 15 Never boring and that is a lot for an animated series like this one, the atmosphere right out of the original blade Runner film, Brilliant job by the director, great attention to detail even with its limitations, the music chosen for it, the plot, everything is great. See more Bob L @TheHumanOracle 10/02/2024 The general story is enjoyable enough. I did have trouble a bit with the graphics which look like video game cut scenes from a couple decades ago. See more LL S 02/13/2024 Intriguing 'interquel' in the expanding Blade Runner mythos. See more Steve B 11/01/2023 I love this. It captures the neon, rain soaked atmosphere of the original 1982 movie perfectly. Somethin I feel 2049 failed to do. I think the capturing of the city element, would even impress Ridley Scott. It's that stunning to look at. My only two negatives, is the texturing/rendering of the characters. They did everything else so well but not this. Also, some of the high beat parts of an otherwise decent soundtrack, took me out of the Blade Runner world. See more 07/03/2022 Although the CG is untextured, the animation / motion capture is kind of tight. The camera angles and 'acting' is pretty effective. Fight scenes are very good. While there is nothing quote unquote new about the BladeRunner world in this, it's a pretty okay way to kill a Saturday afternoon. Also, because the CG is so unfinished and video game-looking, it kind of feels punk rock. See more 06/03/2022 Without spoiling it, only the last four episodes are any good. This is sort of "Blade Runner for Dummies," where they come right out and say replicants have souls and emotions rather than leaving it open to personal interruption. While it's not fantastic, at least it has something to say, which is more than I can say for "Bladerunner 2049" (its idiot thesis was that natural child birth = soul) Until you get to the last four episodes, the animation is terrible, nothing has any weight to it, and it feels like invisible children are playing with dolls. Also there's a weird thing with the sound where there's a random length pause before every line (anywhere from .25 to 1.0 seconds) While the last four episodes get better animation, it's not night and day better. But I will say it looks like they managed to make something watchable and mildly interesting on practically no budget. It helps that the two main characters are likeable. But then it pulls most of the punches, saving them from having to make any hard decisions. See more Read all reviews
