Tv Season Info

The eighth series's finale witnessed Undersheriff McKeen (Conor O'Farrell) firing two shots into Warrick (Gary Dourdan) as he sat in his car. The ninth series picks up seconds after that tragic event, with Grissom (William Peterson), Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) and Warrick's other colleagues learning about the shooting. Their shock quickly turns to resolve as they steadfastly investigate the crime and discover a stunning secret about Warrick. Joining in the probe is the previously departed Sara (Jorja Fox), who returns to the lab when she hears the devastating news. In a pivotal mid series episode, Grissom announces he will be leaving CSI. His more-than-capable replacement, Emmy and Tony winner Laurence Fishburne, is introduced when Grissom attends a class taught by Fishburne's Raymond Langston, a criminal pathologist. The eighteenth episode of the series, "Mascara," marks the milestone 200th episode of the series.

Critic Reviews for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 9

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (5)

Based on Laurence Fishburne's debut appearance Thursday night, easing him into the spotlight being vacated by William Petersen should ultimately serve the show well.

Oct 9, 2008 | Full Review…

It has a film noir aesthetic that asks you to take it seriously in a way that the spin-offs don't (or can't), and yet it's far more comfortable with intentional comedy.

Oct 9, 2008 | Full Review…

Playing tired despair can come across as boredom, something Petersen has mostly avoided.

When plugging into a template as successful as CSI, you don't mess with the matrix.

If you were worried about your favorite show's favorite character's replacement, rest assured that Fishburne's Langston is different enough to walk easily in Grissom's paper lab shoes.

Oct 9, 2008 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

[Laurence] Fishburne's heft and natural gravitas ensures the show's center will hold, even as it slides down the hierarchy from the top to the bottom.

Apr 21, 2020 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

By the last half-dozen episodes of the season, the show had settled into such a comfortable groove with its new roster that things almost felt too relaxed at times, but the fans of this show relish the familiarity.

Feb 10, 2020 | Rating: 4.5/5 | Full Review…

Season nine may not go down as the best season in the show's history, but it remains a cut above all of the other shows of its kind.

May 22, 2009 | Rating: 8.1/10 | Full Review…

The particulars of the transition involve the usual melodrama, as each regular cast member has a chance to express his or her feelings about Grissom's departure, however pissy or mundane.

Dec 11, 2008 | Rating: 6/10 | Full Review…

At its best, CSI is a workplace drama - people working in proximity with a forged sense of purpose and identity.

Jan 14, 2009 | Full Review…

Angles like this are superior for creating anxiety and tension in the viewers over a period of time and gives us something to talk about.
