Tv Season Info

Season 2 begins with the CSIs enjoying new Manhattan offices and Hawkes (Hill Harper) shifting from being a medical examiner to working in the field as a CSI. His first case involves the death of an expert climber who falls from the 34th floor while scaling the Empire State Building. Meanwhile, Aiden Burns (Vanessa Ferlito) becomes obsessed with proving that a suspected rapist attacked the same woman twice, and she considers falsifying evidence to put him away. At the Central Park Zoo, a man is mauled and eaten by a tiger. The bizarre case, which is investigated as a murder, is the first assignment for new CSI Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap), who hails from Montana. Also joining the team in the lab is Dr. Sid Hammerback (Robert Joy), the new medical examiner. His initial case is no less strange than Lindsay's. He examines the body of a man who was impaled---and perhaps murdered with---a swordfish. In the romance department, Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) begins dating Frankie Mala (Ed Quinn), a sculptor, and Lindsay and Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) start flirting. Horatio Caine (David Caruso) of the Miami crime lab tracks a serial killer to New York, where he is served with a subpoena that names him as a suspect in the death of the man who killed Horatio's mother more than 20 years ago in Queens. As for New York boss Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), a bit of his private life is revealed when Lindsay learns he plays bass every Wednesday night at a jazz club. Mac also flashes back to a 1983 Beirut bombing when he attempted to save the life of a fellow marine and failed. It occurs when Mac and Flack (Eddie Cahill) become trapped in a building because of an explosion and Flack is seriously wounded. Other intriguing cases involve Kid Rock, who's investigated for the murder of his limousine driver; a Roller Derby star who is killed during a match; and a rich playboy and his girlfriend who are pinned to a wall by an arrow during a party Stella attends.

The cases are strong, if sometimes rather icky, and the characters are allowed to grow. There are also some unexpected but satisfying casting changes that came late in the season.

"N.Y." is finding its footing nicely; at this rate, it may well rival the original "C.S.I." for top honors amongst the trio.
