The comedy is not black enough to do justice to what is a richly macabre environment. There's an irksome corniness to much of the attempted humour that seems to belong in a different show.

This macabre aspect of the drama is accentuated and razzled with a tone of grim and ironic humor that is, at times, screamingly funny. Clever, visually sumptuous and indescribably unique.

Very Irish, very funny and boasting this unique hook of a very Victorian tradition, Dead Still is unique enough to stand out in the dense ranks of genre TV - and sharp enough to draw blood.

Michael Smiley is a hoot as pompous photographer Brock Blennerhasset, and so is Aidan O'Hare as the detective whose investigations look sure to make Blennerhasset's life a misery.
