What to Know

Critics Consensus

Death and Other Details has plenty of ideas to spice up the classic whodunnit, but its fatal flaw proves to be a lack of cohesiveness in the bigger picture.

“Death” has a few twists too many, but it’s a pleasant and surprisingly digestible watch despite some formally complicated flashbacks and an enormous cast. Go to Full Review

A nice combo platter of The White Lotus paired with a Knives Out mystery and a Succession chaser... Go to Full Review

The early episodes are a mix of classic clues and one per cent critique, with a bittersweet undertone that ties in with the mismatched duo’s shared past. Persevere with it -- Patinkin, yet again, is great here. Go to Full Review

As the series coasts entertainingly along, wanting more of Rufus and Imogene sleuthing together, and more of them stepping beyond their present boat-bound scenario, is the main takeaway. Go to Full Review

Derivative and unevenly paced, this whodunit series is shallow and only mildly suspenseful. Go to Full Review

On this ship of drink, dalliances, and death, the mystery never wavers. But it’s cluttered — a detriment that may not hook every viewer, simply leaving the series as a sinking ship. Go to Full Review

AM J @AMJORDAN 57m A sloppy mystery poorly told. It tries to be too many things. Is it White Lotus? Is it Agatha Christie? Is it a morality play about the dangers of excess? Ultimately it fails at everything it attempts & simply becomes a hot mess. Even the talents of Mandy Patinkin cannot save it, largely because his character is shoved to the wayside in favor of the world's least likeable lead. Imogen cries, whines & sleeps her way through the series in an extremely 2 dimensional portrait of a modern woman. For some unfathomable reason she takes on the role of lead detective over Patinkin's 50 years of experience & is given 90% of the screen time over an interesting & diverse cast of characters. It really feels like author self-insert after awhile. Isn't Imogen so pretty! So clever! So captivating! What could have been a complex mystery with an intriguing ensemble becomes The Imogen Show. Ending with an unsatisfying & frankly stupid finale it ultimately feels like a complete waste of everyone's time. See more Laura N @penguinlondon 19h I loved this. I was really shocked to look at rotten tomatoes and see that it got 55% from critics and 66% from audiences. Fairly often the critics score is either lower or higher than I'd expect and then audiences give it something closer to what I think. I always go with the audience score versus critics personally. But this one is a solid 5/5 for me. I was genuinely expecting 90% or something like that. I looked at the ratings halfway through the series and then was just waiting for something not very good to happen to change my mind but it was awesome from start to finish in my opinion. It's funny, well acted, well directed, great pace, really engaging, the twists were genuinely unexpected but also not ridiculous or annoying. I would love to see a second series of this and I worry that it's not going to happen. To me it's a rare example of really watch this anyway despite the ratings being a bit lower. I thought it was brilliant. See more Ana M @SippyMatcha 2d I LOVE IT! Great story, interesant plot, complex See more Rob A Oct 30 Part mystery and part thriller with a few laugh-out-loud moments thrown in, this was a very cute miniseries. Violett Beane (whom I first discovered on The Flash) knocked it out of the park in what could be a breakout moment for her career. See more Tseriya T Sep 25 I really liked it! The mystery was captivating and characters compelling. There were some slight elements in the ending I was not a fan of and I feel the operation behind the villain was not explained properly. But I loved the details throughout the show and rufus. See more Andre K Sep 4 Interesting characters, mystery and thrilling keeps you guesing worth a rewatch sometime.
