What better way to return to the world of Disenchantment than Bean and Luci rescuing a friend in the most horrible place imaginable?
Disenchantment debuted on Netflix in 2018 to a just OK reception from critics and fans ... and that's about where the show is today, after two seasons.
Disenchantment Part 2 is vibrant, honest, and every ounce as charming as its predecessor.
This run of Disenchantment suffers from the same issues as the preceding one: namely, it just isn't funny enough.
Season 2 doesn't fully follow on the brio the show displayed at the tail end of last season, but with a newfound pathos and lots of wit, Disenchantment has finally transmogrified into that rare beast of a TV show that leaves you asking for more.
Everyone involved should have known better from the start, and on this basis it deserves less benefit of the doubt, not more.
Disenchantment Part 2 is an impressive improvement built upon the somewhat shaky foundation of Part 1, and it puts the descendent of The Simpsons and Futurama in league with some of the best adult animation available on Netflix right now.
All of the pieces to make something truly wonderful are here - it just feels as though showrunners are assembling them by hastily skim-reading a set of IKEA instructions.
Disenchantment Season 2 delivers a more impactful story than its first outing, with great character development and dynamic new locations to explore.
Disenchantment doesn't quite know what exactly it wants to be yet. But watching the series figure it out is a delightful adventure, all on its own.
Disenchantment works best when it is an inspired, anything-goes fantasy show, and worst when it is a sitcom set in a fantasy world.
Although the serialized story takes some fascinating turns, it stumbles when it relies on familiar staples.
