02/04/2022 Love the show!! Getting Curious is the physical embodiment of Jonathan. It is fun, quirky, sincere, and yes sometimes over the top, but that's why people love Jonathan and why I love love love the show. I learned something interesting in every episode, and it did not feel like I was in school or being lectured, (except maybe Alok, who came off a teensy bit preachy - I would have preferred more screen time for two-spirit Geo Neptune). I cannot believe how well this show managed to combine so many well-known celebrities with professional experts as well as everyday people and even a politician, filmed during a pandemic and still be so well balanced in representation, knowledge, and entertainment! Kudos! Dr. Jessica Ware in the Bugs episode was a standout delight, while a 6-inch tall Michelle Kwan in the Ice Skating episode was unexpected but totally on brand for a series starring Jonathan. The interview with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley in the Hair episode was emotional and historic at the same time, while getting access to the active construction site of a high-profile project in NYC in the Skyscraper episode was probably unprecedented. Just so many amazing things about the show, I can go on and on. Note to Netflix and WOW: Too few episodes! Should have been 8-10 like other Netflix shows or 12-14 like Drag Race. Please make up for it on Season 2 with extra episodes! One last thing, I saw at least two Easter Eggs, so now I'm going to rewatch to see if there are more. See more 01/30/2022 This show, as per the credits, is "a World Of Wonder production". WOW is one of the, if not the, biggest production companies when it comes to LGBTQIA+ oriented content. They are the production company behind the RuPaul's Drag Race franchise. TL;DR, they've got money. They might not be the richest production company out there, but they're are doing fine. Yet, everything they seem to be doing, ends up having a cheap feeling, with very bad acting and cut scenes that could be considered satirical, if there wasn't so much of them. Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness isn't an exception. In RPDR, it can be understandable. At the end of the day, the drag queens casted are -- usually -- not actors or singers. If we can blame their "producers" (i.e. whoever is a judge on that episode) for not making them do better, it doesn't change the fact that it comes out as inherently cheap. But, for this series, JVN is an actual, real TV host (amongst many things). Queer Eye is a great example. So, how come in this, the script reading is so bad, interrupted by cheesy jokes -- and very bad VFX, in the first episode at least. It's just a shame that there are teenagers on YouTube producing better shows than a multi-million dollar producing company. As for the content of the show itself, it's fine. You can learn a few things here and there but, as it often is the case for netflix pseudo-scientifical shows, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. See more 01/30/2022 Incredibly addictive! The style of the show and the way Van Ness presents is extremely infectious. See more 01/28/2022 I really enjoyed this dude on queer eye and love seeing him experess himself and being comfortable in his skin. Unfortunatly though just as in the last season of QE he keeps calling for insane society changes based on reasons that are NOT scientifically backed. I think we can all be more loving and acceptive of each other, but that's different than demanding it. See more 01/28/2022 This show just makes you happy. You can't stay in a bad mood while it's on :) See more 01/28/2022 Wonderful show!!! A must watch! See more Read all reviews
