Portillo brings with him a copy of Bradshaw's Handbook of Indian, Foreign and Colonial Travel which was published at the zenith of the British Raj in 1913. Following its century-old advice, Portillo travels through mountain ranges, deserts and vast plains to visit palaces and temples. Starting on the Amritsar to Shimla route, Portillo continues on from Lucknow to Kolkata, Mysuru to Chennai and Jodhpur to Delhi through India's famous Golden Triangle.
