Seven years after a series of murders claimed the lives of her mother and five others, Abby Mills returns to her hometown of Harper's Island to attend the wedding of her best friend, heiress Trish Willington, to boy-next-door Henry Dunn. There's no happily ever after, though, as a serial killer begins picking off family members and friends one by one in this serialized horror-drama series some have described as " 'Scream' meets 'Ten Little Indians.' ".

Grisly horror trumps amateurish dialogue, making Harper's Island a thrill to watch.

At its best, the CBS thriller was a throw-away summer diversion. Go to Full Review

It's like every horror film ever made - and it really doesn't skimp on the gore. Go to Full Review
Alex McLevy AV Club 01/12/2019
All of the by-the-numbers soap-opera plot points felt stale and uninteresting because they came across like treading water-listless character beats intended to string people along until the show became a locked-room horror chase. Go to Full Review

Harper's Island is a perfectly contained one-season epic that blends the aesthetics of similar Aughts TV like Revenge or Pretty Little Liars with the orchestrated mayhem of a classic mystery/slasher. Go to Full Review

There are a few decent scares before bedtime, but the plot twists aren't anything to write home about at the start. Style-wise, we're not talking "Twin Peaks" here. Go to Full Review

It's an entertaining enough diversion that may grow more intriguing as other series end their season-long runs next month and viewers become more desperate for fresh entertainment. Go to Full Review

See more Renie T Feb 21 Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the action and liked the characters the first time I watched, I found errors where they could have killed Wakefield before he and Henry killed off everyone except Shay Madison Abby and Jimmy. When Wakefield broke into the bar Trish picked up a gun. She knew Wakefield killed her Dad yet she left Shane to have his tiny knife battle with Wakefield who had a much much bigger knife. She should have just shot Wakefield! The way it was played out there couldn't be a Season 2. See more Fabrícia F @Fabricia 09/22/2024 Alucinante, perigoso, vibrante. See more 02/13/2019 It's a teen network "horror". Terrible to say the least. See more 09/13/2018 It gives a lot of thrills and chills, not only because of its dark atmosphere that will seem heavier episode after episode but also because of its great cast that will seem clumsy at the first episode but that will improve a lot in the next ones. It has a slow start but after the 5th episode you will not be capable of stop watching it. See more Jrock16 M @Jrock16 12/22/2017 An amazing adaptation of the slasher genre making it to tv. A blueprint that should be taken for future endeavours of this kind! See more Read all reviews
